but some really are my very, very favourite ones …

como agua para chocolate (like water for chocolate)
… this book/movie really changed my life. i felt so much more at home in this world when i watched it. it tought me how to celebrate food together, passion and maybe even prepared the ground for my professional development. one of various LOVELIEST scenes … the recipe for passion …

l’odeur de la papaye verte
about a young girl, passion and food and an intrigueing insight to vietnamese culture

the cook, the thief, his wife and her lover
… greenaway movies always made me feel surrounded by kindered spirits. this in particular is wonderful and horrible at once, just like reality.

big night
the movie is two brothers who emigrated from italy to open an italian restaurant in america. primo is the irascible and gifted chef, brilliant in his culinary genius, but determined not to squander his talent on making the routine dishes that customers expect. secondo is the smooth front-man, trying to keep the restaurant financially afloat … about this gap about culinary art and customer expectations i can tell you a thing or two …

tampopo
as if life were a series of smiles …. this movie is about trucker goro who stages a search for the perfect noodle restaurant but cannot find it. then he meets tampopo, a sweet young woman who has her heart in the right place, but not her noodles. they strive for a first class restaurant … love and noodleology …
noodles appear much more interesting in this movie than sex or violence in many others.
my favourite scene is this one about how to correctly eat spaghetti …

eat drink man woman
widowed senior master chef chu lives in a large house in taipei with his three unmarried daughters. life in the house revolves around the ritual of an elaborate dinner each sunday, and lots of stories around …

road home
… a city businessman returns to his home village in north china for the funeral of his father, he remembers the magical story of how his father and mother first met and got together … i love this movie, the awe-inspiring landscapes of north china blended with intense emotions … and lovely food scenes, one of the masterpieces by yimou zhang
